Adjusting Public Network Billing

If the current network billing mode does not meet your business needs, you can choose to adjust the bandwidth or billing mode. For specific operations, refer to Adjusting Network Configuration. This document describes the limitations for adjusting the bandwidth and billing mode, as well as the cost after adjustment.

Adjusting Bandwidth
Upgrading and Downgrading Bill-by-Traffic Bandwidth Value
The bill-by-traffic host bandwidth cap can be upgraded or downgraded at any time. Bandwidth cap adjustment does not affect public network costs, which are billed based on the actual traffic used.
Upgrading and Downgrading the Bandwidth Value for Billing by Hourly Bandwidth
For billing by hourly bandwidth, fees are settled once per hour. If the bandwidth is upgraded or downgraded within 1 hour, it will be billed according to the highest configuration.
For example, at 00:00 on June 1, 2020, you purchased 2 Mbps/hour public bandwidth billed by hour for your Cloud Virtual Machine (CVM) instances in the Guangzhou region, priced at 0.0116 USD/hour. At 00:30 on the same day, you upgraded the bandwidth to 6 Mbps/hour, priced at 0.0498 USD/hour.
At the time of settlement at 01:00 AM on the same day, billing is based on the highest bandwidth within an hour. That is, the bandwidth is billed at 6 Mbps/hour and charged USD 0.0498.
Upgrading the Bandwidth Value for Monthly Bandwidth Subscription
Bandwidth upgrade follows a daily differential charging principle. Supplemental fee for the upgrade = Monthly price of the new bandwidth x number of months for the upgrade - Monthly price of the old bandwidth x Number of months for the upgrade.
Note:
The upgrade fee is charged according to the daily difference. If the duration is less than a day, it will be rounded up to a full day.
Number of months for the upgrade = (Resource expiration time - Current time) / (365/12).
For example, on June 1, 2020, you purchased 2 Mbps public network bandwidth billed by month for your CVM instances in the Guangzhou region, and the fees were calculated as follows: Monthly bandwidth fees = 2 Mbps x 3.4 USD/Mbps/month = 6.8 USD/month. The subscription period was 3 months. At 00:00 on June 21, 2020 (the usage duration was 20 days), you upgraded the bandwidth from 2 Mbps to 6 Mbps, and the fees were calculated as follows: Monthly bandwidth fees = 5 Mbps x 3.4 USD/Mbps/month + 1 Mbps x 11.83 USD/Mbps/month = 28.83 USD/month.
Number of months for the upgrade = (10 + 31 + 31) / (365/12) = 2.37 months.
Supplemental fees for the upgrade = 28.83 x 2.37 - 6.8 x 2.37 = USD 52.2111.
Note:
There are 30 days in June, 31 days in July, and 31 days in August. Resource expiration time - Current time = 10 + 31 + 31.
Adjusting the Public Network Billing Mode
Switching from "By Traffic" to "By Hourly Bandwidth" for Pay-as-you-go Instances
For CVM instances billed in pay-as-you-go mode, if the network billing mode is billing by traffic, it can be switched to billing by hourly bandwidth. There is no limitation on the number of switching times for each CVM instance.
The billing of public network fees is switched from billing by traffic to billing by the usage duration of the public network bandwidth, and the fees are settled once per hour. No supplemental fees or returned fees are involved.
If a switch occurs within 1 billing cycle (1 hour), the billed-by-traffic fees will be charged according to the traffic used in this billing cycle, while the billed-by-hourly bandwidth fees will be charged according to the time percentage (billing seconds/3,600 seconds). The billing duration is precise down to the second.
Switching from "By Hourly Bandwidth" to "By Traffic" for Pay-as-you-go Instances
For CVM instances billed in pay-as-you-go mode, if the network billing mode is set to billing by hourly bandwidth, it can be switched to billing by traffic. There is no limitation on the number of switching times for each CVM instance.
The billing of public network fees is switched from billing by the usage duration of the public network bandwidth to billing by traffic, and the fees are settled once per hour. No supplemental fees or returned fees are involved.
If a switch occurs within 1 billing cycle (1 hour), the billed-by-traffic fees will be charged according to the traffic used in this billing cycle, while the billed-by-hourly bandwidth fees will be charged according to the time percentage (billing seconds/3,600 seconds). The billing duration is precise down to the second.
Switching from "Monthly Bandwidth Billing" to "Billing by Traffic" for Monthly Subscription Instances
CVM instances are billed in the monthly subscription mode. CVM networks billed in the monthly bandwidth subcription mode can be switched to billing by traffic. Each CVM can only be switched once only. After switchover, the refund amount = Purchased Monthly Bandwidth Cost - Resource Usage Cost.
Resource Usage Cost: If the CVM has been used for a full month, the deduction is based on the monthly bandwidth billing rate. In the case of less than a full month, the deduction is based on the hourly bandwidth billing rate for the duration used, calculated to the second.
Cash coupons used for purchasing are not refundable. Non-coupon fees are refunded to the payer's Tencent Cloud account according to the payment method (cash/bonus) and payment ratio.
For example, on June 1, 2020, at 00:00, you purchased a 2 Mbps monthly bandwidth package for a CVM in the Guangzhou region, costing $6.8 per month, for 3 months. On July 2, 2020, at 12:00 (having used it for 1 month and 36 hours), you switched the 2 Mbps monthly bandwidth package to billing by traffic.
Purchased monthly bandwidth cost = $6.8 × 3 = $20.4.
Resource Usage Cost = $6.8 + $0.0058 x 2 × 36 = $7.2176.
Refund for network switchover = $20.4 - $7.2176 = $13.1824.
Note:
For the resource usage cost, if resourses are used for a full month, it is calculated at the monthly price. In the case of less than a month, it is calculated based on the prorated hourly bandwidth price:
≤ 5Mbps: $0.0058 USD/Mbps/Hour.
> 5Mbps: $0.0208 USD/Mbps/Hour.
For the resource usage cost, $6.8 is the monthly bandwidth fee for a full month. $0.0058 USD/Mbps/Hour × 2 Mbps × 36 hours is the hourly bandwidth cost for less than a full month.
Switching from "Monthly Bandwidth Billing" to "Billing by Traffic" for Monthly Subscription Instances
CVM instances billed annually or monthly can switch their network billing mode from billing by traffic to monthly bandwidth billing. Traffic costs will be billed hourly at the time of conversion; afterwards, the bandwidth cost will be calculated based on the monthly bandwidth billing mode. Each CVM can only be converted once.
Note:
Annual and monthly subscription instances can switch from billing by traffic to monthly bandwidth billing. The default duration for public networks is the remaining duration of the instance, rounded to days and billed proportionally by days (i.e., remaining days / 30 days).
For example, on June 1, 2020, you purchased a 3-month annual and monthly subscription CVM in the Guangzhou region, along with 2Mbps traffic-billed public bandwidth. On July 2, 2020 (with 61 days remaining), you convert the 2Mbps traffic-billed bandwidth to monthly bandwidth, which costs $6.8 per month.
Remaining days proportion = (30 + 31) / 30 = 2.033.
Conversion fee = 6.8 × 2.033 = $13.8244.
