Video Prefetching

Last updated: 2024-10-11 11:55:27

    Overview

When the network environment is poor or the audio and video files are too large, users may face issues like first frame loading delay or playback stutter. The Audio and Video Prefetching feature of EdgeOne can effectively improve these problems. This feature automatically caches part of the audio and video data before the user clicks play, significantly shortening buffer time and ensuring a smooth viewing experience even in unstable network conditions. Additionally, Audio and Video Prefetching is the default configuration policy of EdgeOne, with optimal parameters set for audio and video scenarios. Users only need to select the corresponding recommended scenarios when adding a domain to activate the feature by default.

    How the Feature Works

For HLS/DASH files:, when the client requests an m3u8/mpd file, the EdgeOne edge node proactively pulls the ts/m4s segments to speed up the response time for subsequent requests.
For MP4/FLV files:, when a client initiates a range request, by expanding the range of the request and then going back to the source, files are pre-cached to the EdgeOne edge node, improving response efficiency.
